The ABU was officially set up on July 1, 1964 with 11 members.
In 1974, one of the first grants that the HBF made was to the
ABU, to finance the attendance of a number of smaller members
at that year's General Assembly in Tokyo. It was a special occasion,
the 10th anniversary of the ABU's foundation.
The ABU held Prizes prestigious contests each year among ABU
members and affiliates for radio and television programmes in
various categories. Just a year after it was established, the
HBF began an association with the ABU Prizes that continues
today.
Over the years, except ABU Prizes, the HBF has provided a great
deal of assistance to the ABU and many of its members. The HBF
and the ABU are covering many aspects of radio and television
broadcasting. It has been a productive relationship dating back
almost the birth of the HBF and contributing in a real way to
the realisation of the aims of both organizations.
