The Hoso Bunka Foundation welcomes applications for its grants with proposals for researches, projects and events related to "Broadcasting" that contribute to the advancement and development of broadcasting and broadcasting culture. The HBF looks for proposals with a creative and original point of view from individuals or organizations.
The categories of the Grants are:
SURVEYS, RESEARCHES and STUDIES related
to
Technological development of broadcasting
Broadcasting culture
that provide new perspectives and draw attention to new dimensions of broadcasting.
CONFERENCES/ MEETINGS aimed to promote broadcasting culture and contribute to the development of broadcasting and the broadcasting media.
TRAINING COURSES/ SEMINARSon program production and technical operation to cope with the emerging new broadcasting technologies and systems.
ACQUISITION OF TV / RADIO PROGRAMS produced in Japan by overseas countries.
NOTE that:
–The HBF Grant is NOT a kind of Scholarship for students. The Grant is not provided for amateurs' or laymen's projects.
–Applications for travel fees alone are not accepted.
–As a general rule, the HBF does not extend grants to
projects which are mainly aimed at purchase / installment
of equipment / facilities or construction of studio / office,
etc.
–Applicants are required using this 2014/2015 version
of the Guidelines coupled with the prescribed Application
Form, NOT previous ones. The format of Prescribed Application
Form should not be altered.
–Photocopied prescribed application forms are accepted
as long as the signature of the applicant is ORIGINAL, Not
photocopy.
SIZE OF GRANT
•The maximum grant for each approved proposal is ¥3million(Japanese
Yen).
•The amount of grant approved may be reduced as a result of examination by the Committee. In order to utilize the limited funds as effectively as possible, applicants are requested to apply with precisely calculated amount to carry out their projects. Also, they are encouraged to seek for other assistance resources besides the HBF.
APPLICATION
•Applicants are required to use the 2014 version of
Prescribed Application Form.
•Applications will be accepted during a period between 1 and 31 August, 2014.
•Application form must be sent by the postal mail only.
Any application by FAX or E-MAIL is INVALID and NOT accepted.
•A letter of acknowledgement of receiving application
will be sent out to each applicant by the HBF Secretariat
within a month after the application deadline of 31 August.
•Each applicant will be allowed to submit only one application.
SELECTION
•All applications will be examined and screened by a
Selection Committee consisting of independent jury members
commissioned by the HBF. The size of each grant will also
be examined by the Committee and referred to the HBF Board
of Directors for its final decision and approval.
•The names of recipients of grants will be formally
announced in February, 2015. Results of the selection will
be informed to applicants by the HBF Secretariat.
•Information concerning the process by which selections
have been made will NOT be released.
PERIOD FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF PROPOSALS
•The Grants will be offered to help applicants implement
their proposals during a period of one year after the formal
approval of applications by the HBF Board of Directors.
•The HBF Grant does not cover any part of proposed research
/ project / event which will be implemented before the formal
announcement of names of approved grantees in February, 2015.
GRANT FUNDS ON TWO INSTALLMENT PLAN
Grant funds will be paid in two installments - the first payment
will be made after the formal announcement of grantees and
the second payment after the Interim Report to be submitted
to the HBF by the grantee.
REPORTS
•All grant recipients are required to submit an Interim
Report five months after receipt of the first installment
of the grant funds and a Final Report within one month after
the completion of the proposed researches / projects / events.
