The Hoso Bunka Foundation Prize:
For one or more excellent proposals which display the potential to develop outstanding educational programs.
Winner : ”A School Among Glaciers” /

Terminal Report of the production of “School Among Glaciers” by Mr.Dorji Wangchuk

This proposal was for a documentary showing the hardships encountered by two teachers traveling to a village school in a remote area of Bhutan, and describing life in the area, which has a distinctive culture of its own. In accepting the award, Mr Dorji Wanchuk expressed his pleasure, saying that all his energies would be focused on producing a program that would draw attention to the situation faced by schools in remote regions.

Mr. Dorji Wanchuk, Producer of Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) expressed his pleasure by saying that he would make every effort to produce the program and try to turn the public eye toward the schools in remote regions, which he had deep interest in.
Ms Hyunsook Chung, head of the Children's Programme Dept. of Korea Educational Broadcasting System in Republic of Korea, chaired the selection committee for the inaugural proceedings of the Programme Proposals Division. Ms Chung said, “Many producers of educational programmes work under difficult situations with limited resources. The Hoso Bunka Foundation, with its HBF prize, plays a major role in encouraging these producers to create quality educational programmes. It is a valuable investment for future dream!”

“A School Among Glaciers” was screened at Japan Prize 2004. <October 30, 2004>
Mr. Wanchuk said, “I’m glad to complete the production of this program. It brings up a question about whether the current education system in Bhutan is really appropriate. I hope many people will see it.”
Ms. Hyunsook Chung, head of the Children’s Program Department of Korea Educational Broadcasting System in Republic of Korea, and chairwoman of the judging committee for the 30th Japan Prize said, “The completed program is more outstanding than what was proposed last year. When the proposal was presented to us, I thought a lot more elements should have been added to the idea. However, the completed program gives us a minute description of the present situations of the education system in Bhutan in an intelligible way. I’m so glad that I was able to see the completed work.”
